      This week’s Shooter showcase.

Conor’s journey with shooting spans over 23 years, beginning when he was just nine years old and first introduced to a .22 rifle by his grandfather. Those early days were spent in the back of his grandfather’s Land Rover, where he learned the ropes of controlling rabbit populations. As he grew older, he moved to larger calibers like the .222 and .308, using them for foxes and deer. Inspired by the gamekeepers he admired, Conor pursued the profession himself, he now has over a decade of experience as a gamekeeper in North Wales.
His introduction to clay shooting came with a 12 bore IAB for skeet, but Conor’s interests evolved towards sporting layouts. Today, he prefers his 12 bore Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon V, with its stunning color-cased-hardened finish.
Conor faces challenges unique to his profession. The constant threat of opposition seeking to ban shooting activities looms large. Whether it’s navigating consultations to license gamebird releases or dealing with saboteurs disrupting shoot days, the pressures are relentless.
Reflecting on the industry, Conor emphasizes the need for a change in its public image. He believes that too often, individuals prioritize social media likes over portraying the industry accurately. For Conor, proper education and demonstrating etiquette are crucial for the industry’s survival. He recognizes that a few bad actors can tarnish the reputation of all involved.
And at Gwysaney Sporting, where Conor works, it’s not just his expertise with firearms that sets him apart. He consistently works with two German Shepherds and two Labradors in the beating line, a sight not commonly seen but valued for their contributions to the day’s work, even assisting in picking up at the end of each drive.

Thank you so much @thegrumpygamekeeper we wish you every success throughout your journey.
