Weihrauch HW 100 X

We take a closer look at the brand new HW 100 X!

The HW100 X is a welcome evolution of the classic HW100. At its core is a new ultra-efficient regulator, nestled in the valve block, delivering very consistent pressure and — as a result — excellent shot-to-shot consistency and accuracy. Paired with a 250-bar aluminium air cylinder, the rifle offers a dramatic increase in usable shots per fill: roughly 210 shots in .177 calibre, and up to 250 in .22 — a substantial leap from the previous model.

Ergonomically, the HW100 X steps up too. The launch Sporter-laminate version brings a modern stock with adjustable cheek-piece, a ventilated butt pad for comfort in long sessions, and ambidextrous safety levers — nice touches for both left and right-handed shooters. The inclusion of an M-LOK rail under the forend expands versatility, making it easier to add bipods, lights or other accessories.

In use, shooters can expect the well-known smooth side-lever action and match-grade trigger of the original HW100, now in a package that’s lighter (thanks to the aluminium cylinder) and more capable for sustained shooting — ideal for target practice, pest control or recreational plinking.

However, the HW100 X is still a precision-oriented rifle rather than a “light and quick” plinker. At 3.48 kg (full-size Sporter), it isn’t the easiest for carry over long periods. And while the extra shot-count and refined internals are major upgrades, prospective owners should keep in mind that the muzzle moderator, scope and accessories are not included — you’ll need to budget for these.

✅ What to check when buying an HW100 X

  • Model & stock variant — The HW100 X comes in at least two variants: full-length “Sporter Laminate” (standard) and a shorter “K / Karbine / KT” version.
  • Calibre (.177 vs .22) — The X is offered in .177 and .22. The shot count per fill differs depending on calibre (see below).
  • Fill pressure & air cylinder — HW100 X uses a 250-bar high-grade aluminium cylinder, lighter than older steel cylinders.
  • Shot Count per Fill — For full-length HW100 X: about 210 shots in .177, 250 shots in .22 per 250-bar fill (actual number varies with pellet, power setting, etc.).
  • Weight & Dimensions — Full-length weighs ~ 3.48 kg; overall length ~106 cm; barrel 41 cm.
  • Trigger, action & features — Comes with a 2-stage “match” trigger, spring-assisted side-lever action, rotary 14-shot magazine system. Features also include top Picatinny rail (for scope) and M-Loc slots (for bipod/attachments) on the Sporter stock variant.

🎯 What to budget for (beyond the rifle itself)

  • Since the rifle is sold without scope or scope mounts (unless specified), you’ll need to buy optics separately if you want precision shooting.
  • A fill system (scuba-type bottle or PCP hand pump / compressor) is required to charge the 250 bar cylinder — factor in that cost (and maintenance/fills) when considering long-term running.
  • Consider accessories: bipod, sling (especially for field or pest-control use), protective case, maybe a moderator (if you want quieter shots or backyard-friendly shooting).

Who the HW100 X is ideal for — and who it might NOT suit

Good match if you:

  • Want consistent accuracy and good shot-to-shot repeatability — the new regulator + quality build mean fewer inconsistencies between shots.
  • Do regular shooting, training, target work or pest-control — high shot-count per fill means less topping up and more shooting time.
  • Appreciate classic rifle balance/feel combined with modern ergonomics (adjustable cheek-piece, M-LOK rails, ambidextrous safety) — nice for both right- and left-handed shooters.
  • Prefer a versatile PCP that can be set up “just the way you want”, with scope, bipod, accessories etc.

Might not suit you if you:

  • Want a compact, ultra-light field gun — at ~3.5 kg + scope + tank it can feel quite heavy/bulky.
  • Only plan occasional / casual plinking — cost of setup (scope, fill system) vs. use may not justify it.
  • Want minimum maintenance with no need for fills & accessories — PCP implies upkeep (fills, cleaning, possibly regulator servicing after some time).

In summary: the HW100 X represents a very strong update to a proven platform. It delivers improved shot economy, modern ergonomics and all the precision you’d expect from a top-tier PCP air rifle. For serious shooters, pest controllers or those investing in a long-term PCP — it’s hard to beat. For someone wanting an ultra-light field rifle or a casual budget shooter, it might be overkill, BUT, I love it! – Rack
